Trail Fuel: Sports Drinks

Sports drinks are/have been/will always be near and dear to my heart. On a hot day in the middle of a mountain, these things are a life saver. When it comes to buying the bottles, it unfortunately ends up being expensive and wasteful, and while there are moments when this is ok in my book – for the most part I don’t like it. This is just one of the many reasons I buy them in the powdered form. You get more for your money, can bring it anywhere with you, and best of all? You control the sweetness.

Powdered Gatorade

So many times I’m dying for water but have only gatorade – and other times all I want is some salt and sugar mixed in with that water.

Typically on trips I bring 2-3 bottles, one water, one gatorade, and on hot days, one water that starts out frozen solid, so I can dump it over my head and down my chest. This covers all my bases, and is the best way for me to go.
